The Mississippi State Society is the oldest such organization in Washington. It was founded in 1895, and Harry Peyton served as its first president. Other Mississippians who have served as president include Captain Thomas Raleigh Raines, James William Collier, George W. Potter, Harry R. Fulton, Mrs. Percy E. Quin, Mrs. Ellen S. Woodward, and Charlton M. Clark.
