Note on arrangement and description: 
The description of the material originally in this series was written by Welty scholar Suzanne Marrs. Material added to this series from the Welty estate bequest has been described by the archivist, and appears in bold font. The longer drafts have been subdivided for better preservation: the first and second parts of these are indicated in the description and on the folders by numbers with subletters: “1a,” “1b,” etc.

Every piece of material in this series has been numbered by the archivist. These numbers will be found on the items, and on the folders in brackets. However, in the description below, all numbers mentioned are those originally assigned to the pages by Eudora Welty or her publishers.

Proof sheets of numbered pages 47-83. These are apparently proofs for the version appearing in The Bride of the Innisfallen and Other Stories (New York: by Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1955). The last two pages of the proof have corrections in red ink.
