Scope and Content Note: 

Letters of Dr. Benjamin F. Barry, a member of the Second Battalion (also called the Fourth) of Mississippi Cavalry, CSA, and his brother, William Robert Barry, a member of Company K, Fourteenth Regiment of Mississippi Infantry, CSA, addressed to their sister, Mary B. Barry, and their father, Bartley Barry, of Columbus, Lowndes County.

Dr. Barry, a native of Lowndes County, was practicing medicine in Oktibbeha County at the time he enlisted in the Confederate service. The "Mother" referred to in Dr. Barry's letter was his step-mother.

The letters give much detail of the military operations of the two companies of which the Barry brothers were members.
