Typewritten copies of papers and correspondence of the family of Judge James Taylor Rucks of Washington County, Mississippi. The majority of the letters are written by Judge Rucks and his daughter Marian who attended school in Maryland. Sixteen items relate to the Civil War period and are written by Marian Rucks and her husband Frank Valliant who served in Company D, 28th Mississippi Regiment. A letter of November 12, 1863, tells of the capture of Dr. Peters who killed General Van Dorn.
