Scope and Content Note:
Letters concerning the diary of James Hardeman Stuart, double third cousin of General J. E. B. Stuart, and member of Burt Rifles of the Confederate Army during the Civil War, who became a captain in the Signal Corps on General Stuart's staff and was killed at Second Manassas, August 30, 1862, aged 22. Also included are two copies of the diary which covers the period from July 1 to August 26, 1862. One copy was made by R. B. Mayes, nephew of James Hardeman Stuart.
