Thomas H. Williams served as a senator from Mississippi, 1838–1839; ran against A. G. Brown for governor in 1843; and was the first to propose the establishment of the University of Mississippi.
Among the correspondence are letters addressed to President James Monroe, Governor David Holmes, and Secretary of State John C. Calhoun.
