Scope and Content Note:
Sermons, speeches and notes of Cornelius Washington Grafton, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Union Church. Grafton (1846–1934), a native of Madison County, served in the Confederate Army, graduated from the University of Mississippi with the highest honors of his class, and taught school at Sardis before entering the ministry. He was pastor of Union Church from l873 to 1934, served as Moderator of the Synod of Mississippi in 1896, and as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, U.S., in 1916.
Included in the collection are the following: "History of One Hundred Years of Presbyterianism in Mississippi," 39 pp.; "Heritage and Testimony of Southern Presbyterian Church," 20 pp.; "Pioneer Presbyterians," 16 pp.; "History of Concord Church," 8 pp.; "Valedictory Address, University of Mississippi, 1868," 15 pp.
