The firm was first established in 1844 by William Richardson and was known as William Richardson & Company. Reorganizations resulted in the following changes in name: Richardson, Lowry & Company in 1854; Robinson, Reynolds & Company in 1855; Robinson, Stevens & Company in 186l; Stevens, Willis & Company in 1867; Busick, Stevens & Company in 1874; Busick & Stevens in 1885. By 1885 the owners of the business were Henry Anderson Busick, D. W. Busick and Mr. Stevens.
