Dates: 1846 - 1921

George Alexander (1822–?) taught in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and California. His last position was probably as president of Minden Female College in Louisiana (1881–?). From 1845 to 1849, he served as principal of the Salem Military Academy in Tippah County, Mississippi.

The volume, "Journal of the Life, Correspondence, and Private Transactions of George D. Alexander", covers the years 1845–1849, and 1868–1881. It includes personal notes, accounts for school textbooks, comments on education in general, newspaper copies of his writings, newspaper articles on various schools where he taught. Pages 6 and 97 are lost.

Correspondence includes a letter (1862) drafting Alexander into the Confederate army, and one to Major George D. Alexander in California from E. K. Smith, chancellor of the University of Tennessee.

There is a newspaper copy of George O. Thatcher's inaugural address to the Caddo Parish (Louisiana) Teachers' Association (May 11, 1891). The address mentions the "Quincy method" of education.

Also included are 3 unidentified photographs, an advertisement for a publication by an anti-cigarette smoking league, and a 1910 postcard showing the post office and Baptist church in Monroe, Louisiana.
