Benjamin Archie Pendarvis Scrapbook (Z/1173)
Date: 1938.
Scope and Content Note:
From August 21 to October 3, 1938, the American Legion in Mississippi sponsored a Mississippi Legion Caravan to Los Angeles, California, for the purpose of promoting Mississippi. Traveling over 6,000 miles the caravan went north from Jackson to Chicago, then west to Los Angeles, and returning through Texas to Mississippi. Benjamin Archie Pendarvis, who drove one of the floats in the caravan, assembled this scrapbook, with the help of his wife. It contains postcards, newspaper clippings, photographs and memorabilia, tracing the caravan day by day during the 44 day trip. Mr. Pendarvis (1894–1964) was a lawyer from Jackson, and at one time was Adjutant of the American Legion.
