Biography:

George Hamilton Ethridge

George Hamilton Ethridge was born February 26, 1871, at Fort Stephens, Kemper County. He was educated at Iron Springs Institute at Java and the Linden Academy in Tennessee. Ethridge was admitted to the Mississippi bar in 1894 where he practiced in DeKalb and Meridian. He served one term from 1904–1908 in the Mississippi House of Representatives. In 1912 Ethridge became assistant attorney general and served five years before becoming a justice of the Supreme Court, 1917–1941. He again served as assistant attorney from 1941 until his retirement. He was the author of Essays and Poems published in 1924, Mississippi Constitutions published in 1928, and a Mississippi history published in 1940. Judge Ethridge also wrote numerous articles and essays for newspapers and magazines.
