Dates: 1819 - 1882.

History:

The Mississippi Territorial Assembly passed an act in December 1809 for the establishment of a bank in the city of Natchez to be officially known as "A body politic and corporate, by the name and style of the President and Directors and Company of the Bank of Mississippi." In 1818 when the General Assembly met, the bank was rechartered as the Bank of the State of Mississippi. The bank had an honorable and successful career, and when the State chartered the Planters' Bank and entered into all manner of wildcat banking plans, it liquidated its business.

During the course of its existence of about thirty years, the Bank of Mississippi accumulated quite a large collection of records. These records were placed with the new Agricultural Bank of Natchez in 1835 on account of certain close business relations. Later, the Agricultural Bank became the successor of the Bank of Mississippi.
