History:
St. Mark's Episcopal Church (Hinds County, Miss.)
St. Mark's Episcopal Church was organized in 1883. It was an outgrowth of a Sunday School for African Americans. In 1912, a rectory and parish house were bought. Services and kindergarten were conducted here until 1926, when the parish house was moved to the rear of the lot facing Poindexter Street. In 1927, St. Mark's Medical Clinic was opened in connection with the mission and operated very successfully until 1935 when the work was largely taken over by the County Health Department.
