History:

Salem Baptist Church, located three miles north of Collins on the Salem Church road, was founded June 13, 1874. The first pastor was Reverend W. E. Sheppard. The local school building was used as a meeting house for the newly organized church until 1877, when a small split log building was completed. The small building was replaced in 1895 by a larger frame structure, which was remodeled in 1933. The present building was dedicated for church services on August 12, 1956.
