Theodore Whitfield
Theodore Whitfield was born in Mississippi around 1834. His wife, Anna E. Whitfield, was born in North Carolina around 1837. They had a son, James M. Whitfield, who was born in Mississippi around 1868. Theodore Whitfield was a minister with a congregation in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, in 1870. He owned $10,000 in real estate and $200 in personal property in 1870. A twenty-year-old black female servant named Vina was living in the Whitfield household in 1870.

This collection consists of a typewritten transcription of a sermon, which the Reverend Theodore Whitfield preached to his congregation in Meridian on October 16, 1870, following the death of Confederate General Robert E. Lee on October 12, 1870.
