Biography:
Kirby Pipkin Walker was born on June 9, 1901, in Dunn, North Carolina. At the age of six his family moved to Mississippi. Here he attended schools in McComb and Hattiesburg. He received his B.A. degree from Southwestern and M.A. degree from the University of Chicago. In 1925 he married Frances Settle. In 1936 he became superintendent of Jackson Public Schools and served in this capacity until his retirement in 1969.
