Biography
Edmund Tobias Winston
Edmund Tobias Winston, son of Emma Eloise Furr (1847-1892) and William Winston (1828-1878), was born at Toccopola, Pontotoc County, on July 22, 1871. Living most of his life in Pontotoc, Winston was a journalist working at various positions with the Pontotoc newspaper. He also served as mayor of Pontotoc from 1921–1923. On April 27, 1898, he married Florence Theresa Seale (1875-1959) In Pontotoc County, and the couple had seven children: Theresa Eloise Winston (1899-1973), William Seale Winston (1900-1966), Irma Marie Winston (1901-1997), Charles Edward Winston (1903-1974), Hester Marguerite Winston (1905-2003), Robert Lawrence Winston (1907-1982), and George Everett Winston (1909-1942).
Scope and Content Note:
Photocopies of correspondence and personal papers of Winston-Fontaine families. The whole of the collection centers around the ancestors of Edmund Tobias Winston, particularly the Winston and Fontaine families who came to the Pontotoc area in the 1830s and early 1840s.
