Carl Andre Collection (Z/1778)

Scope and Content Note:
This collection contains correspondence between Andre and other attorneys and court clerks involved in this case. The correspondence contains numerous attachments relating to the court case. Andre included the court exhibits for the U.S. District Court (08.21.1972) as well as the court briefs of both sides and the trial transcript.
The case was appealed to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. This series includes typescripts of the government briefs, the Fifth Circuit Court schedule and motions, and the responses involved in the trial. The reply brief of the appellant, State Tax Commission of the State of Mississippi, and the Appendix to the Brief are also included. The U.S. Government put in an application for an extension of time within which to file a petition for a Writ of Certiorari to the Supreme Court. Other series include the Distress Warrant for seizure and sale of property, and the summons for Hauberg to serve as Chata's attorney.
