History:
Organized on January 15, 1931, the Jackson Council of Garden Clubs was composed of smaller neighborhood garden circles, some of which predate the formation of the council. The organization was originally divided into eight districts; each district contained four or more local garden clubs. A list of the charter members of the Jackson Council of Garden Clubs includes the following: Mrs. Harris Barksdale, Mrs. H. F. Crisler, Mrs. E. G. Flowers, Mrs. Joseph Heuck, and Mrs. C. W. Welty.
Scope and Content Note:
This collection contains scrapbooks and other material related to the Jackson Council of Garden Clubs, which offer a record of club activities from 1952 to 1978. Included in the collection are Jackson Council of Garden Clubs directories that cover the years 1962 to 1978. There are also several club histories that were written by club members, including one penned by Mrs. C. W. Welty, the mother of author Eudora Welty.

This folder contains a copy of the 1954 charter of incorporation and bylaws for the Jackson Council of Garden Clubs, as well as a revised copy for 1956. It also contains a revised copy of the garden club constitution for 1952.
