History:
The Official Mississippi Women’s Club was founded by Mrs. Hugh L. White in 1938. The stated purpose of the club was "the association of women for their mutual benefit through sociability and entertainment." Club membership was limited to women who were the wives of state or national officials representing Mississippi in elective or appointive positions.
Scope and Content Note:
This collection consists of newsclippings and printed materials documenting club activities, as well as scrapbooks containing newsclippings, photographs, and other items. It offers an intermittent record of club activities from its inception in 1938 to 1990.
