The genealogy, written by John Burnet and Anne Harris Lum in 1959, is a compilation of research materials primarily concerned with the Burnet and Lum families, as well as the allied Aicklen, Carter, Humphreys, Jenkins, Schaifer (also Schaeffer or Shaifer), Short, Smith, and Stubbs families. The genealogy includes information supplied by the authors, as well as photocopies of original correspondence, deeds, and ancillary materials.

A variety of photocopied documents comprise the genealogical research materials, including correspondence, deeds, financial records, maps, newsclippings, and wills. One folder, labeled "George Nelson-Gov. Brewer," contains correspondence and newsclippings concerning the Jenkins and Short families of Louisiana, Mississippi, and North Carolina. Another folder, labeled "cemetery records," contains correspondence and a will concerning the Short families of Louisiana and Mississippi. There is a folder containing deeds, financial records, and newsclippings concerning the Humphreys family of Mississippi. Two folders concerning the Burnet family of Mississippi include correspondence, financial records, newsclippings, and a photograph. A folder of miscellaneous genealogical research materials contains correspondence, newsclippings, and township maps primarily concerning Joseph Dunbar. Several photocopies (oversize) of family research materials include Louisiana and Virginia deeds.
