Scope and Content Note:
This collection consists of a number of legal records pertaining to United States district courts in Mississippi.
United States district court judges sent most of the legal documents to marshals of the Mississippi District. These include summonses dating from 1821, 1825, and 1856 ordering various citizens to appear before federal district court judges in Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi. There is also an 1851 document seeking repayment of court fees from a plaintiff under the jurisdiction of the Mississippi District. Other legal records include an 1837 statement of protest seeking reparations from a plaintiff in Yazoo County. There is an 1874 pardon application of S. J. Favre to the United States Justice Department and an 1876 affidavit from the United States Treasury Department certifying that Adam Field of Concordia Parish, Louisiana, was a member of Company F, Sixty-sixth Regiment, United States Colored Troops.
