Sallie W. Sale
Sallie W. Sale, daughter of Noxubee County, Mississippi, planter William Sale and his wife Elizabeth E. Sale, was born about 1846 in Mississippi. Around 1860, Elizabeth E. and Sallie W. Sale moved to Itawamba County, Mississippi, where Sallie Sale began her teaching career. In 1868, Sale aided in the creation of a new school, possibly the Baldwyn Male and Female Institute in Baldwyn, Lee County, Mississippi. She married James F. Page, a druggist, in March 1870. The couple resided in Baldwyn and had three children: Robert (b. ca. 1871), Orion (b. ca. 1875), and Carlyle (b. ca. 1877).
Scope and Content Note:
This collection consists of a July 28, 1868, letter written by Sallie Sale in Macon, Noxubee County, Mississippi, to A. Murdock in Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi. In the letter, Sale requests permission to transport furniture across Murdock’s toll road without charge. The furniture was purchased for the school Sale was helping establish in Baldwyn, Lee County, Mississippi.
