Biography:
Albert Gaston “A.G.” Wineman
Albert Gaston “A.G.” Wineman was born on November 12, 1847, in Ohio, to parents Sarah Ann Nichols (1813-1901) and Elijah Franklin “Eli” Wineman (1812-1866). He had the following siblings: James Wineman, Parker Askew Wineman, Lucretia Nichols Wineman, Ruth Wineman, Enfield Meade Wineman, Eli Franklin Wineman, Alice Jeannette Wineman, Mary Emma Wineman, and Loretta Wineman.
He married Mary Ann Irwin (1851-1932). The couple had the following children: Harry Justice Wineman (1872-1888), Ilena Wineman (1874), Lawrence William Wineman (1876-1923), Leila Maie Wineman (1878-1942), Albert Verten Wineman (1881-1931), Robert Parker Wineman (1884-1935), Jennie Curran Wineman (1886-1947), Otto Wettstein Wineman (1888-1934), and Susie Witt Wineman (1891-1956). A.G. served as a Private in Company I, 170th Regiment, of the National Guards. He was recruited in Bellville, Ohio, in 1864.
By 1895, A.G. Wineman resided in Greenville, Mississippi, having taken a prominent place in the city’s business circles as a successful businessman and a progressive citizen. He owned A.G. Wineman and Sons which provided wide band sawed lumber of cottonwood, oak, ash, gum, cypress, and elm varieties. He was elected as a member of the city council.
When his health began failing, he traveled to Southwest Texas, but the change of climate did not provide improvement, and he returned to Greenville by January 1905 and died shortly after. He died on January 23, 1905, and was buried in the Greenville Cemetery, Washington County, Mississippi.
Scope and Content Note:
This collection consists of one invoice from A.G. Wineman and Sons of Greenville, Mississippi, dated March 15,1920. The invoice features an attractive illustration of lumber mill equipment, and identifies the business provided wide band sawed lumber of cottonwood, oak, ash, gum, cypress, and elm varieties. This invoice was sent to Forrester-Mace Box Company, Kansas City, Missouri, for an order of #2 common cottonwood. It is stamped "paid" on June 4, 1920.
