10. Adam Hodgson, Letter to M. Jean-Baptiste Say, on the Comparative Expense of Free and Slave Labour (New York: Mahlon Day, 1823). (50, 14 p.)
Reprint of a monograph published by the Liverpool [England] Society for the Mitigation and Gradual Abolition of Slavery. The author argues that slave labor is not less expensive than free labor when differences in productivity are factored into the equation of labor costs. An appendix includes letters supporting the author’s argument as well as report on Sierra Leone’s economic viability.
