Review of a trial in which a slave catcher was charged and convicted of kidnapping a black infant, the son of a fugitive slave from Maryland who was born in New Jersey after his mother fled. The child was deemed to have been free when his mother was recaptured in Philadelphia and thus kidnapped when she insisted on taking him with her to Maryland. Mr. Alberti was sentenced to ten years in the Eastern Penitentiary of Pennsylvania.
