Brief report on the efforts of a Northern Bible society to distribute Bibles to Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. According to the report, more than 300,000 Bibles were sent to Confederate armies, including 20,000 to Joseph E. Johnson’s army before the fall of Vicksburg, 50,000 for Braxton Bragg’s army after the battles of Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain, 100,000 for Confederate soldiers from North Carolina, and 50,000 to the Trans-Mississippi Department. An appendix contains excerpts from correspondence regarding the distribution of these bibles.
