Stone Collection: Volume 70 - Item 10
10. “The Case of Anthony Burns,” Monthly Law Reporter (August 1854): 181-210.
Summary of testimony in a trial resulting from the capture of a fugitive slave in Boston. (The case had the potential for being a test case for the constitutionality of the Fugitive Slave Law, but the Federal judge refused to entertain the motion and returned Burns to his owner. The collection has a copy of an extemporaneous sermon concerning the slave’s capture in volume 71 [no. 7].)
