Stone Collection: Volume 89 - Item 3
3. The Colored American Magazine 9 (December 1905): 659-732.
Whole issue of a monthly magazine for African Americans. The magazine is illustrated with photographs and displays advertisements in the front and back. This issue contains an article entitled “The Afro-American Political Giant with the Strength of a Child” by T. Thomas Fortune, editor of The New York Age. Mr. Stone has marked numerous passages in this article, especially the final three paragraphs, one of which begins as follows. “The Afro-American people are like a giant in bulk and a child in strength; or they have the strength of a giant and use it as a child. It amounts to the same thing.” Mr. Stone uses this quotation with an appropriate attribution in “The Negro in Politics,” a chapter written especially for his book, Studies in the American Race Problem (pp. 359-60).
