• two letters from N. C. Tynes, a student at the University of Mississippi, to his father and mother, J. L. Tynes and Mrs. P. G. Tynes dated October 11 and December 16, 1879

Contains three miscellaneous letters of Tilghman M. Tucker, Governor of Mississippi, 1842–1844; three certificates of appointments signed by Governor Tucker; and the obituary resolution of Bexar Lodge, No. 230, Marion County, Alabama, passed at the time of Tucker's death, April 30, 1859.

The following items were removed to the Governor's Papers, July 1973:

Manuscript and typed copy of Ida Barlow Trotter's reminiscences of the Siege of Vicksburg. Ida Barlow was from Winona, Mississippi, but lived with her parents near Vicksburg during the siege.

Miscellaneous papers of W. C. Townsend, Gilbert, Louisiana, who owned property in Scott County. Included are the marriage licenses of G. Frank Wood and Miss Almilda P. Trimble, Feb. 15, 1869; and J. H. Burge and Miss W. A. Townsend, Feb. 3, 1896.

Typescript consisting of thirty-one pages written by Dr. Jesse Thomas Wallace, Clinton, concerning roads and highways in Mississippi from the earliest days until 1939. Also included are forty-four photographs, numbered and referenced to the text by page number.

Typed account of the case of Hardy v. Hartman, a "lawsuit of historical interest," which involved the selling of public lands around the Pearl River. Written by R. H. Thompson of Jackson, attorney for the defendant.

Scope and Content Note:

Papers concerning the Mississippi Woman Suffrage Association, collected by Lily Wilkinson Thompson, of Crystal Springs and Jackson, president of the organization from 1912–1913.

Included are speeches, histories of the organization, articles, annual reports, and the constitution and by-laws of the Association. The volume is a manuscript book of business records kept by Mrs. Thompson during 1912–1913.
