History:
The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in the home of Mary S. Lockwood on November 11, 1890. The organization was incorporated in Washington, D.C., in 1891 and chartered by an act of Congress in 1896 to promote historical, educational, and patriotic endeavors. The NSDAR is a lineage-based society with over three thousand chapters in the United States.

History:
The Red Lick School was established in Red Lick, Jefferson County, Mississippi, in January of 1836. This town is located about five miles southeast of Lorman. A total of fifty-eight students attended the school in 1859, and it continued to operate through at least 1863.

Biography/History:
The Illinois Central Railroad Company was chartered in the state of Illinois on February 10, 1851. Its purpose was to build a rail line in Illinois connecting Cairo, located at the fork of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, and Galena, located at the extreme northwestern corner of the state. The company completed additional rail lines between Centralia, Illinois, and Dubuque, Iowa, on September 27, 1856.
